Almost exactly a year after signing his first NHL contract at the age of 32 with the Philadelphia Flyers, defenseman Evgeny Medvedev’s future just became very hazy, to say the least.
The 33-year-old Medvedev was pulled over by police last month and just recently has been charged with use or possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance and DUI as a result of that traffic stop. The incident happened in Lower Moreland Township when police saw his vehicle driving on Byberry Road and pulled him over.
Medvedev signed a one year contract with the Flyers last May, after playing 8 seasons in the Russian Superleague (RSL) and the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), winning two championships and earning 3 all-star appearances.
When he was stopped by Lower Moreland police he had a blood alcohol content (BAC) of more than .16, which is over twice the legal limit for drivers. Medvedev was charged with disregarding traffic lanes, failure to use headlights and driving without a license, as well as the drug offenses and DUI. Medvedev will appear in court on June 15 for a preliminary hearing, and his NHL future is now very uncertain.
